Lowell (Robert) is born in Boston.

March 1, 1917

The son of Robert T.S. and Charlotte (Winslow) Lowell, Robert Lowell grows up at 91 Revere Street, attends the Brimmer and Rivers Schools, and Harvard College, and graduates from Kenyon College. He becomes one America’s foremost poets and a member of the so-called Confessional School. Lowell teaches at Boston University and Harvard, and marries Jean Stafford in 1940,* Elizabeth Hardwick in 1949, and Caroline Blackwood in 1972. He dies in New York City on September 12, 1977, and he is buried in Dumbarton, New Hampshire.
